Today’s Leader of Faith
MICHAEL OLUWAMUYIDE ADEGBOLAGUN
Home Call : 01 March 1996

Evangelist, Missionary, Pastor, Musician, Church Adminstrator

Michael Oluwamuyide Adegbolagun (1918-1996) was a dedicated minister of God who committed himself fully to the ministry of Christ. He was Known for rebuilding churches and strengthening congregations. Once a prominent and successful businessman, he left everything behind to answer God’s call and served effectively in the ministry. Until his passing in 1996, he held the position of Assistant General Overseer (AGO) at the Voice of Redemption Gospel Church, a Nigerian Pentecostal mission, under the leadership of Folorunsho Husswin. He emphasized in his sermons that there are three things that could hinder a Christian from reaching heaven. These are: what you see, what you hear, and what people do to you. He always cautioned Christians to be very careful not to be distracted by these three things. He loved music and played the piano, accordion, and guitar quite well. As part of his responsibility as the AGO, he always travelled round the branch churches across the nation to strengthen, monitor, and guide the pastors in charge of these branches.

Michael was born on May 22, 1918, to Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Igbaro Seriki Adegbolagun. His birthplace was Oke-Ode in present-day Kwara State, where his father worked as an Osomalo (traveling trader). His mother was a native of Efon-Alaye. He began his education in 1924 at Saint Peter’s Anglican School, Erinmo-Ijesa, (present-day Osun State). He later transferred to St. John’s School, Iloro-Ijesa, completing his schooling in 1942. He started as a teacher before moving to Lagos, where he worked with Patterson Zochonis (PZ) and later in private business. His business flourished until a major financial loss in 1950. A prophet and his father urged him to accept God’s call to ministry, but he initially resisted. In 1949, he married Comfort Olaoluwadunni Adegbolagun, and they had five children. In 1969, he finally yielded to God’s call and started his ministry at Christ Apostolic Church, Lagos.

Michael was ordained in 1972 and faced various spiritual challenges, including physical attacks. In 1985, he joined the Voice of Redemption Gospel Centre, where he played a key role in completing the church auditorium. Following the loss of his wife in 1986, he dedicated himself entirely to God’s work. He prophesied that he would pass away after completing the church building, which came true on March 1, 1996, during a visit to the Republic of Benin. He had been sick unto death before, but the Lord kept him until he completed the work. His legacy includes church growth, administration, and his teachings on avoiding distractions in Christian life. Before his final journey, he seemed to have a premonition of his death. He spoke with his eldest daughter, telling her he would be “on his way home” after an inspection tour of church branches in the Republic of Benin. She assumed he meant returning to Lagos, but he repeatedly urged her to follow his instructions carefully. After departing for Benin, he passed away there, and his body was brought back to Lagos. It was only then that the church members realized his visit had been more of a farewell.
